A True Story Brought to You from Somewhere Over the Rainbow
It is my
normal routine on a Saturday morning to do housework. This morning as usual I
got up and prepared to start mopping the floor. After moving all of the furniture
around to make mopping easier I started my house work. A couple of hours later
I was finished and decided that as it is Saturday I feel like eating some Black
Pudding and Souse. I call my souse lady and was surprised that there was no
answer. I called back half an hour later and there was still no reply. I decided
that as it was after midday perhaps they were not taking any more orders. So my
next thought was OK what shall I eat today instead.
Whilst
deliberating I looked out of my kitchen window and saw my neighbor doing some
gardening, I thought strange that its Saturday and my neighbor is not at
church, he is an Adventist and hardly ever misses church and definitely would
not be seen gardening on a Saturday. But I shrugged my shoulders and decided to
go out to Chefette to get something to eat.
On my way to Chefette
I suddenly thought of Subway and decided I wanted a sub instead. I headed down
to Hastings and was surprised to find Lanterns Mall car park almost empty.
Oblivious I went upstairs to Subway. When I got there it was closed along with
most of the other food outlets. I was totally confused. Why was this place so
dead on a Saturday afternoon and why was Subway closed already? I left the mall
and headed towards the Garrison with the intention of getting a Rotis from the Indian
Grill. When I got there it too was
closed. Now I was really confused. I don’t normally go out hunting for food on
a Saturday but I did not realise that so many places closed early on Saturdays.
I left the
Indian Grill and decided to check to see if Subway in Bridgetown was open.
Needless to say it was closed. I left Bridgetown and headed towards Wildey. I
decided I would see if the Rubis gas station still sold their Steak and Cheese
Sandwiches. At last a stroke of luck; I bought a full sub a drink and headed
home still trying to figure out why everywhere was closed. On my way home I passed
Sky Mall, I was going to pull in to get a couple of things from the supermarket
but it was also closed. By now I was really racking my brains trying to figure
out why everything was closed so early. Surely it’s not a bank holiday; we don’t have
bank holidays on Saturdays.
Anyhow, when
I got home I suddenly realised I had not taken any meat out of the freezer to
defrost to cook for Sunday lunch tomorrow. I took out some pork chops and
decided I would stew them with some split pea rice. I then sat down to eat my
sub (far better than Subway) and finish my drink. I then thought I would give
my cousin a call but changed my mind as she normally goes out shopping on a Saturday.
I turned on the TV and an old episode of Songs of Praise was on. Strange to be showing
this on a Saturday I thought…
